Puri, popular as Jagannath Puri touches Bay of Bengal. Known as the holy ‘Land of Jagannath’, it is the most revered city for Hindus and is counted as one of the Char Dhams apart from Dwarka, Badrinath and Rameshwaram, that hold immense religious importance. The huge temple of Lord Jagannath is known world-wide. The city is thronged by tourists during annual Rath Yatra of deities when the idols of Shri Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are taken out of the temple and are carried on chariots as procession. Apart from this, there are many places of interest like Mathas or Ashrams. Puri Beach serves as a great place for tourists.
